We are delighted to announce that we have won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2018. This recognises the company’s outstanding growth and international expansion.
The esteemed and highly sought-after award for International Trade was earned by our efforts to build a global brand and replicate its success achieved in the UK. This has been achieved from our deep-rooted passion for endurance sports, especially triathlon. As well as this, by providing our customers with the highest quality and best performing products.
Founder and former elite triathlete, James Lock, started developing the concept of Zone3 in 2004. Aged 19 he would design and produce swimming accessories such as drag shorts and ankle bands and sell them to members of his swimming and triathlon clubs. At this time, the key focus for Lock was simple: improve his race speed and earn enough to cover his training and racing costs.
Lock’s dedication and the quality of the product driving its popularity, has catapulted Zone3’s brand onto the global sportswear stage. This has been achieved without any investment or business partners; instead, by building a fantastic team of staff and ensuring that each product is packed with innovative and performance enhancing designs and features. Today, Zone3 retails in over 25 countries and is the brand of choice for many athletes at all levels.
Commenting on the recent win, Lock said: “I am incredibly proud that Zone3 has been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. As the UK’s most prestigious business award, this accolade is testament to our company mission to be the most loved and chosen specialist sports brand in the world.
My own background as a former athlete and my innate passion for triathlon and competitive nature has been a driving force behind the Zone3 brand. It has helped me to build the business up from a grassroots level to a global market player.
We are all delighted that our international growth has been recognised and this has been achieved thanks to an exceptionally talented, positive and hardworking team of staff.”
The award was formally presented at our head office Tuesday 13th November, following a Royal reception at Buckingham Palace over the summer.
HRH Duke of Kent presented the award to founder James Lock, accompanied by the Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux.
We were also delighted to welcome further guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Guildford, Mike and Jean Parsons, as well as LLs cadet Samantha Foster and Caroline Brecknell – Assistant Clerk, Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the County Council.
All of our staff from Zone3 welcomed the royal party, explained their roles in the business and provided our guests with an overall view and feel of Zone3’s mission.
We have grown organically year-on-year and have seen growth in overseas sales and continued international product demand. Our UK team has grown to more than 20 employees. Zone3 continues to thrive, despite trading through uncertain economic times including the 2008 recession and Brexit.
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2018 has firmly cemented our leading position in the global sportswear marketplace.
