James Scott-Farrington
James' Story
I first started doing triathlon in 2013. My parents' house is in Bolton, which used to be the home of Ironman UK. In 2013, I was watching it with my parents, and I thought 'yeah, this looks like a good idea' and from that day I started my 'journey' in triathlon and my first triathlon was Deva triathlon in Chester.
My favourite thing about triathlon is the places it's taken me. I've been lucky enough to travel the world and see some amazing places from James Bond islands in Phuket to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. I've also met some incredible people during those travels and for me that's why I love triathlon so much.
INSPIRATION:
I'm inspired everyday by the people around me that I train with. I'm lucky enough to be able to train in a squad that has 7 Triathlon Olympic medals in it and athletes that are ranked in the top 20 in the world in the PTO rankings. When you turn up to training every day and you're surrounded by that level of athletes, it's hard to not be inspired by them.

GREATEST CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge I faced was probably when I was growing up. When I started growing at thirteen I developed a condition called severs disease. This is basically when children have a growth spurt and the tendons start to pull on the bones, In my case the achillies tendon would pull on its attachment at the back of the heel, which creates a lot of pain. This normally happens to children between the ages of 12-15, I was unlucky enough to have it for that length of time. This basically meant that I couldn't take part in much sport growing up. Whenever I did get involved, it would leave me limping on both legs for about 3 days after! The only real way for me to overcome this was to keep on top of stretching and pretty much wait it out.
SEASON GOALS: This year I am aim for a podium at the newly inaugurated Ironman race in Leeds. I will also be aiming to finish as high up in the Ironman pro series as possible.
BEST RESULT TO DATE: So far my best result was at Ironman 70.3 Bahrain 2022, where I finished 9th In a very strong field full of olympic athletes and ironman champions. I swam 26:29 in a non-wetsuit swim, rode 2:05 and finished with a strong run of 1:14:26.
