Yulex comes from the Hevea tree rather than from oil, and Zone3 was the first triathlon brand to use it. Yulex® Sleeveless Swimsuit

WHO IT'S FOR 

You swim outdoors into the autumn and the cold you notice first is across your middle, not your arms. A full wetsuit is more suit than early-season water asks for, and a standard costume gives you nothing at all. This sits between the two. 

  • Open-water swimming as the water cools 
  • Cold pools, lidos and unheated outdoor water

  • Layering under a wetsuit once the water drops further 

WHERE IT SITS IN THE RANGE 

This is the least covered of the women's Yulex swimsuits and the only one that leaves the shoulders alone. The Women's Yulex Long Sleeve Swimsuit runs the same 1.5mm rubber down the arms, and the Women's Yulex Kneeskin extends it over the thighs. For a thermal layer without rubber, the Ti+ swimsuits use a titanium-infused lining instead. 

KEY BENEFITS 

1. Your core stays warm as the water cools. 1.5mm Yulex is a closed-cell foam that absorbs very little water, so the warmth you have at the start of a swim is the warmth you still have at the end of it. 

2. Your shoulders move as though you were wearing nothing. The sleeveless cut leaves the whole shoulder and arm bare, so catch, reach and rotation stay exactly as they are in a standard costume. 

3. One suit covers the whole of the cooler season. Wear it over swimwear while the water is still mild, then as a base layer under a wetsuit once it drops further. 

4. The warmth of neoprene, grown rather than made. Yulex is a natural rubber tapped from the Hevea tree and refined into a foam. Yulex says its plant-based rubber foam emits 80% less CO2 than petroleum-based neoprene. The linings are recycled polyester. 

5. Nothing rubs on a long swim. Low-profile flatlock seams sit flat against the skin, the leg openings are finished with a zigzag stitch that holds without gripping, and the lower body is cut for more coverage than a costume gives. 

WHAT YOU'LL FEEL 

Cold water still finds your arms. What changes is everything underneath them. The first minute is the usual argument with the temperature, and then your middle settles and stays settled while the rest of you gets on with the swim. Reach forward and there is nothing pulling at the shoulder, which is the part people expect to lose and do not. Getting out is where you notice it most, standing on the bank warmer than the people you came in with. 

WARMTH WHERE YOU FEEL THE COLD

1.5mm Yulex is a closed-cell foam, which means it takes on very little water and keeps the warmth it gives you. Coverage runs through the core and the upper legs, the areas that cool fastest and cost you most when they do. The shoulders stay bare, so none of that warmth is paid for in stroke length. Tech behind it: 1.5mm Yulex natural rubber, extended lower-body coverage.

Yulex is a natural rubber tapped from the Hevea tree and refined into a foam, rather than a petrochemical made in a plant. ON ITS OWN, OR UNDERNEATH

Wear it over swimwear while the water is still mild and it is the whole of your kit. Once the temperature drops it goes under a wetsuit as a base layer and buys you the back half of the season. The same suit handles surfing and paddleboarding, which is more than most swim kit manages. Tech behind it: 1.5mm Yulex natural rubber, long front zip, low-profile flatlock seams.

"As another reviewer noticed its quite long in the body, so if you’re shorter torso’d the arm holes are so big it can get a bit revealing. I only found out when I swam in it today - . once the suit is wet its then more stretchy. Other than that its really lovely to swim in."
