Mimi Carlton
Mimi's Story
Having rowed for 14 years since the age 10, training and racing at a high level throughout school and university, Mimi felt she needed a change. She had good strength and endurance from rowing, so naturally she signed up for an Olympic distance triathlon in the Summer of 2018.Despite having a panic attack during the swim, where she almost pulled out, then doggy-paddled the rest of the way-she managed to make up for it on the bike and run, won her age group and qualified for the GB Age Group Team for the European Champs. Mimi was then hooked and there was no going back!
Why do you enjoy competing?
I think two main reasons: firstly, I find racing really shows where you are fitness/performance wise which is not always possible to gauge in training. Secondly, the sense of achievement afterwards, especially if the result is a good one. If not, then at least it’s a great training day!
Inspiration
No singular person or thing– there are so many inspirational people in both triathlon and other sportsthat Icouldn’tchoose one-butthethought of what could be,is what really inspires me. You never know where your ceiling is and the only way to find out is tokeep showing up.
Greatest Challenge
Swimming, particularly open water which I find doesn’t correspond to my pool ability. Having spent 14 years doing a sport on top of the water, being in it has not come naturally. A lot of hard work has gone into getting to where I am now, but I know I still have a long way to go. Improvements are slow and gradual, but I am confident that with hard work and consistency, I can continue to chip away at my swim speed.
Season Goals
Get stuck into pro racing – learn as much as possible and try to enjoy it. Keep chipping away atmy70.3 power/speed and have another crack at the Ironman.

Race you have enjoyed the most
Probably Ironman 70.3 Bolton in 2024. I came off the bike in third with 8 minutes to the front but decided to just run with the aim of getting the best time I could that day. Much to my surprise, I managed to close the gap, pass the two girls in front and take the win. It was my first overall age group win and first experience of taking the tape, so was very special and a feeling I will never forget.
Top Tips & Advice
Consistency and patience are key.
Fun Fact
Growing up, I hated all sport. I was so bad at all forms and dreaded PE lessons at school. It was only in my teenage years when I became quite good at rowing and discovered my competitive side, that I fell in love with sport and now could not imagine life without it.
NEBULA TRI TEAM
Nebula have chosen to launch a new Professional Women’s Triathlon Team. Why? Taking the step from Age Grouper to Professional is exceptionally hard, where most have to work full time alongside training and then need to be an influencer on the side to support any brands working with them. It’s also a lonely existence, with little positive feedback for a while. Going from first in AG races, to midpack Pro can be demoralising.
We want to support up and coming Female Athletes to take this step, with financial support as well as all the kit they need for a season from our fantastic partners. Whilst we handle the story telling of their journey for them.
We believe all athletes should have the same chance, not just those with more followers, and quite regularly Female athletes are overlooked or treated differently to their male counterparts. No longer!
So Nebula, where stars are formed, with the best up and coming female talent in Triathlon to grow and reach for the stars.
Alongside this we have our community and coached athletes forming a great team of Age Group Athletes driving for their own goals. Some coached by the Pro girls or our coaches. Others just wanting to be part of a community of like minded people.
