🏊‍♀️ So the swim was 1.9km around an island in Lake Derwentwater with the route being a very square shape. I surprisingly wasn’t particularly nervous beforehand, I hadn’t lost any sleep other than the early start, but I know there was no pressure on me - I don’t like feeling breathless in the water so I was never going to push hard, I’m not quite there yet. My only concern was the water temperature because I know I struggle with the cold. I just planned to enjoy being in the water and to get around. The water was cold but not as bad as I anticipated, that didn’t stop me losing feeling in my toes pretty quickly and I struggled to get going. I was swimming better than at Ullswater last year but was mixing between front crawl and breaststroke with a lot of time with my head out of the water as the cold was difficult to work with. By around the halfway point I managed to find a rhythm in breaststroke and decided to stop switching and keep going. My hands were so cold they got stuck in a funny claw position but I was going ok. I’m not unhappy with the swim. I anticipated 50mins at best given everything so a good result from me in the end. Definitely glad to swim 1900m in 49mins when I took 45mins for 1500m at Ullswater last year. Out of the water and on to Transition 1 and my temps plummeted. I couldn’t feel my feet apart from pain and I couldn’t think straight and barely talk. Out of my wetsuit and I was shivering madly and assisted by marshals - I was basically dressed by John who put on my socks, shoes and cycling jacket for me (we struggled with my arms because I couldn’t straighten out my fingers). Another marshal wrapped a foil blanket around me and there were questions of getting a medic while tears filled my eyes because I wasn’t sure I could go on. When the question was asked can you continue I didn’t get chance to answer before a female marshal convincingly told me, I’ll be fine, just get pedalling on the bike and you’ll warm up. I feebly agreed ‘ok then’ and slowly moved to get my bike. That was the first almost DNF moment overcome - with all thanks to those lovely T1 marshals 🦸🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

This weekend @challenging_events hosts the Bournemouth International Triathlon on the south coast of the UK. Our very own Director of Supply, Distribution and Customer Service Martin Mckinlay, will be racing for a spot on the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group Championship start line. 💬 Here's what he had to say ahead of the weekend: "After deciding to take a year out of AG racing in ’24, a last-minute change of heart has seen me throw all my eggs into one basket and attempt qualification at the beautiful Bournemouth Triathlon, hosted by the team at Challenging Events. Bournemouth has always been on my list of races ‘to-do’; it's local, the beach is stunning and the run is flat & fast. Heading into the race, qualification is top of the agenda but with the World Champs two weeks later, this presents the last opportunity to fine-tune and to see if the training has paid off." - @martinmckinlay We wish Martin and all the competitors competing this weekend the very best of luck! 🔥 #ZONE3 #ZONE3triathlon #triathlon #fitness #swimbikerun #weekend #racing #summer #openwaterswimming #bournemouth #triathlete #teamnews #cycling

New tri suit! Used it a few times now, feels good to wear! Great under the wetsuit, doesn't restrict movement and the pad is just right for on the bike. Can’t really fault it!
