'There’s no bad or good choices. Just choices, and each one of them takes you on a different path.' Marta sanchez hernandez
Marta's Story
I was 18 when I took up triathlon, after 11 years of synchronized swimming. It was my husband who introduced me to triathlon. At first, it was just to try something new, but I quickly got hooked on the sport.
Triathlon makes me feel like I am where I want to be. I like to win, but also to be pushed to my limits. Racing at this level is physically and mentally demanding and I like that, it makes me feel alive.
GREATEST CHALLENGES:
Looking back I’ve achieved things that I never dream about it, and that makes me look to the future and continue looking for new challenges. Fighting for consistent Top 10 is my big challenge.
SEASON GOALS:
I’ve qualified for Ironman 70.3 World Champs in Taupo and my win in South Africa has meant I’ve qualified for (full distance) Ironman World Champs in Nice. I hope to finish Top 10 in these events!
It was an honour to race in the inaugural T100 series in Miami and I’m hoping to have more opportunities to race again.
KEY RESULTS:
I have a few events to proud of! For short distance, I got two podiums in Continental Cups, a Top10 finish in the World Cupand I was 4th Spanish at Olympic Ranking for Tokyo2020. For middle distance triathlon,I would say the victory in 70.3 Pucon at beginning of this year (2024) and I have also just won Ironman South Africa!
TOP TIPS & ADVICE:
1. Be patient and constant. Don’t be in a hurry to achieve your challenge.
2. Ask and let yourself be guided by professionals
3. Look for a challenge that motivates you, but be realistic.
4. Train in the conditions you will find at race day
5. Training with more people will always be more fun and easier.
…and before you want to achieve something extraordinary, be sure you’re doing the basics (eat, train, rest and repeat!!)
WHICH ZONE3 KIT DO YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST/HAVE FOUND THE MOST USEFUL:
Last two seasons I’ve been using Vanquish X and I really liked it. I feel that the buoyancy and comfort and flexibility – especially in the shoulders – are in good balance.
FUN FACT:
If it’s possible, I always want to swim to the first buoy – at least - beforethe start the race.
