Mathews Story
I started triathlon as a junior at the age of 6 as my Dad was the coach of the local triathlon club. As I grew older I worked through the ranks of junior racing but always had the love of long course racing over the draft legal side having been brought up watching my Dad race Ironman and watching Kona from a young age. When I went to university I started to chase my pro license and in 2023 I won Outlaw X to qualify to race as a pro for the 2024 season. Now I am balancing professional triathlon with working as a part time gardener alongside my Dad, who is also working as my coach.
SEASON GOALS:
The aim for 2025 is to get top 25 in the IM Pro Series and to get a top 5 in a professional race.
GREATEST CHALLENGE: Did my first Ironman with zero run training due to injury, gritted teeth but would not recommend it!
