This is a game changer for getting back into the open water early during spring ready for the summer season. It allows me to stay in and keep my body temperature up for much longer and actually get a quality swim session in the cold water. As always with Zone 3 wetsuits, great quality, comfort and flexibility. Particularly love the fleece lining!!!! Certainly worth the investment for those who feel the cold a little more and don't want to miss out OWS during the spring months.
I've only used the suit in the sea at 11.5º C as I didn't have it until April but it really works well for me. I have been swimming a mile at a time but could go further / stay in for longer. I have been using a booties, gloves and a neoprene hood. My feeling is that I could use this in the colder months of February and March when the temperature is at its lowest. I probably wouldn't be staying in as long but at least it would keep me swimming all winter. The suit is easy to put on, I can self-zip and get it off again with no problems. There are dry patches inside when I take the suit off which shows that flushing is minimal. Just follow the Zone 3 videos and there is no need for nail marks in the suit! The arms are very flexible so no problems there. Ideal to keep open-water swim fit in the winter. Well done Zone 3
After a season+ of struggling to keep up to temp once aclimatised, plus the cooler start to the year I decided to go for a thermal suit. I've a low amount of body fat so theorised that it should help. Well it's changed the game for me. Managed 30/40mins in the water at 11.4°C no balaclava, booties etc.. and never came out the water happy.
Due to COVID-19 pools have been closed in Denmark so the Openwater Season have been extended to cover the winter months as well. I got my Thermal Aspire in the beginning of December and have been out several times every week since, doing 1-3 km per swim depending on weather and sea state. Temperatures have been between 0 and 7 degrees Celsius. Below 3 degrees Celsius I have used a neoprene west under the wet suit. Fit, finish and durability are all excellent and the mobility in the shoulder area is good – I highly recommend this suit!
With the onset of COVID-19 pools have been shut here in Victoria, Canada, so it has been into the ocean for me. I have been at it for almost a year and used an aged Blue-Seventy until there was more glue than neo. Two weeks in this suit and it is night and day from the old. Comfortable, warm (the water was 7 degrees and it was snowing today!) and the fit and flexibility are great. Variable thickness and heat tech are well designed and effective. My only quibbles: the cuffs feel fragile (best tip is a plastic bag for feet and hands entering). Also, some high visibility (cuffs) would please my worrying wife, and a rest buoy clip. Both of these are features on Orca SW that would improve this unit. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this suit - it is worth the extra drachmas!
