WHO IT'S FOR 

Swimmers and triathletes who keep going once the water cools. As autumn comes in, the thing that ends a swim stops being fitness and becomes body temperature: get cold and the stroke shortens, the hands stop gripping the water and you are out well before you meant to be. This suit exists to push that point further back.

WHERE IT SITS IN THE RANGE 

The Thermal Advance is the cold-water option alongside the Advance, with a fleece lining, longer arms and legs and a rolled collar added for warmth. It runs thicker throughout, 2mm to 5mm against the standard Advance's 1.5mm to 4mm. If you swim mostly through spring and summer, the standard Advance is the lighter suit and the better choice; the Thermal Advance earns its place once the water drops and swim length starts being decided by how warm you stay.

3. Less cold water gets in. A double-sided SCS rolled collar sits closer at the neck than the standard Advance, reducing the flush of cold water that cools you from the inside. 

4. Your stroke stays free. Yamamoto #39 SCS neoprene through the shoulders and arms keeps stroke mechanics intact, so the warmth is not paid for in movement. 

5. You still move cleanly through the water. SCS coating on the shoulder and arm panels reduces drag to a friction coefficient of 0.021, so the extra material does not cost you speed. 

WHAT YOU'LL FEEL 

The inside is the first thing you notice: soft against the skin rather than slick, and warm before you have even reached the water. Once you are swimming, the cold arrives more slowly and never quite settles at your core. Your hands and feet stay useful for longer, which is usually what decides when a winter swim ends. Your arms move the way they do in July, so it feels like swimming rather than enduring. Getting out, you are warmer than you expected to be. 

WARMTH

Warmth that lasts Cold water pulls heat out of you far faster than cold air does, and it takes it from the core first. The fleece lining sits exactly there, holding a layer of air against the skin so the heat you generate swimming stays with you. Around it the suit runs 5mm through the torso and upper legs and drops to 2mm at the shoulders, arms and gusset, so the thickness sits where the heat goes rather than where you move, and the thickest panels support your body position at the same time. COLD WATER OUT

Keeps the cold out Most of the cold in a wetsuit swim arrives through the neck. Water flushes in at the collar, runs down the back and cools you from the inside, which is why a suit can feel warm for ten minutes and cold for the next forty. FIT GUIDANCE

Snug everywhere, restrictive nowhere. You should feel the suit holding your body without pinching at the shoulders or compressing your chest to the point where breathing feels laboured. If you can't take a full breath on land, size up. If there's loose material across the shoulders or chest, size down. Air pockets at the lower back usually mean you need a longer suit, such as an MT (Medium Tall), not a smaller size. 

Size down if you're racing — a tighter fit gives you more from the suit's buoyancy and reduces water flushing. Size up if you're prioritising comfort for longer open water swims or training sessions where you'll be in the suit for extended periods.

Take your time the first time. Undo the zip fully and fold the top half of the wetsuit down, zip on the back. Start at the ankles and slowly work the neoprene up your legs in sections —don't try to pull from the top. Smooth out any air pockets as you go, particularly around the lower legs and crotch, before pulling the suit up over your torso. Reaching your hands towards the sky and helps to slide the arm sleeves into place. Use the pads of your fingers throughout, never your fingernails. The Silk-X lining will make this easier than most suits, but neoprene always requires patience on the first few wears. It will get easier as the suit breaks in.
